Design a pavilion that portrays the new UK to the world, bringing together digital with physical using AR and AI at Dubai Expo 2020

To reflect a new vision for the UK, inclusive, engaged and innovative as we reach out to the global community. Inspired by celebrated scientist Stephen Hawking’s last philosophical project – The Breakthrough Message – in which he asked: “If we succeed in discovering another civilisation, what should we say to them about humanity and our planet Earth?”

We invited artist and designer Es Devlin to develop the initial design – which expresses the dynamic function of the pavilion.

We created an imposing, illuminated sculptural ‘message to space’, to which each and every one of the EXPO’s estimated 25 million visitors will be invited to contribute. The pavilion generated a message to space that was representative of humanity and planet Earth. It composed the message using contemporary AI processes developed for the Expo.
